About Cavaso Farming

Cavaso Farming has been owned and operated by the Toscan family since 1969. Over the last 50 years, we have seen three generations of farmers build the aggregation to now comprises of four farms in the Darlington Point area and five farms within the Coleambally Irrigation Area (CIA).

We have had a long association with irrigated agriculture and Cavaso Farming currently produces cotton, wheat, maize, prunes, and beef cattle.

At Cavaso Farming, we are passionate about working with the land and the continuation of sustainable farming in the area. Our management team is committed to ongoing education in agribusiness and strives towards a workforce that takes pride in their work.

History

Tony Toscan first purchased the 250ha property ‘Cavaso’ and began growing onions and started to propagate what was, in the beginning, a 10ha prune orchard.

Today Cavaso Farming is the largest grower of Prunes in the Riverina with approximately 170ha of orchard area planted over three different sites. The farm name derives from the birthplace of Tony’s Father John who was born in Cavaso del Tomba in the province of Treviso, Italy.

In 2019, Cavaso Farming celebrated its 50 year anniversary. In this time it has seen the development of a cohesive operation with carefully thought out infrastructure, highly developed croplands and the procurement of state of the art technology. Collectively we have seen many different crops, but since the region has seen the introduction of cotton and the local gins to facilitate, our cotton program has grown to become one of our primary irrigated rotations.

Award-Winning Farming

In 2017 Cavaso Farming was named the Monsanto Australian Cotton Grower of the Year at the first awards ceremony to be hosted in the Riverina. A year on from this achievement Cavaso Farming hosted a field day at the Ringwood property to showcase their operation and share their experience with the industry. Family

Cavaso Farming is a family run business and we are passionate about working with the land and the continuation of sustainable farming in the area.

Tony and Joyce Toscan are the pinnacles of the Cavaso operation. They are the backbone that has seen Cavaso reach many different goals. Their son Matthew joined the management team in 1995 and along with his wife Daisy. Both Matthew and Daisy have completed their tertiary studies in agriculture and are frequently continuing to implement new innovations that they have learned through further education. Upon the purchase of Ringwood in 2015, Tony and Joyce’s nephew James Toscan joined the operation to complete the current management team.

Today we have a new generation of young farmers working alongside the management team with Matthew and Daisy’s four children lending a hand where possible. Anthony, Simon, Laura, and Darcy are young adults still completing their education but their abilities and knowledge are already proving to be a great asset to our operation.
